Dash Point: 1980s to PresentAs the years passed, the shopping complex was rebuilt and eventually Art’s Grocery store and Savon Drugs closed, while the Browns Pt. Veterinary Clinic and other small businesses, like Dr. Zimmer’s Dentistry and Archie’s Diner moved in and opened up. Also, a new fire house was built just behind the shopping complex. A new gas station went into the shopping complex, but only last for about ten years and closed due to lack of sufficient revenue generation. Schools Moved & Rebuilt Also during the ’90s several large housing developments took over much of the higher hills of upper Browns & Dash Points which stretched east & south toward NE Tacoma. This development added at least a thousand new homes where there had previously only been forest. With the increase in housing going in, Meeker Middle School was moved into a newly built building just south of the newly built community center, and Browns Pt. Elementary was rebuilt to utilize all of the older site for K-5. With this expansion of the elementary school at the Browns Pt. site, the Dash Point Elementary building was closed and leased out to a private school for several years. This school, Seabury, eventually relocated to 53rd Ave NE next to Browns Pt. Blvd. Eventually, the City of Tacoma built a Tacoma City Police sub-station at the intersection of Campus Parkway & Norpoint Way, next to the NE Community Center. |
